The 'Kura Hulanda' area in Willemstad covers about 8% of the Historic Otrobanda District. A 'kura' is originally a residential area with a mansion in the middle surrounded by buildings and walls. The current 'Kura Hulanda' complex is formed by a museum and a hotel with little shops, cafes and restaurants. The Kura Hulanda Museum mainly focuses on the history of slavery and the African culture. Most of the buildings in the Kura Hulanda area were built in the time span of almost three years and are now protected monuments. /
